On the 9th Joon 2023, the Club put on the 41st Blaydon Race, with huge thanks to all of our members, sponsors and around 200 volunteers!
In the Men’s open race, Calum Johnson retained his title from last year, winning in a time of 26:43. Gateshead Harriers’ top lad enjoyed a good battle with Cameron Allan along ‘Scotchy Road’ before putting time in to the Houghton Harriers athlete, who finished second in 27:21. Completing the podium was Graham Rush of Leeds City AC, a winner in 2019, who finished in 27:33.
In the Women’s open race Millie Mcknespiey won in 31:06, beating club mate Heather Townsend, both of Leeds City AC by 9 seconds. Jasmine Wood of Durham City Harriers was first local lass, finishing in third in 31:28. Special mention to Aly Dixon and Danielle Hodgkinson both previous winners of the Blaydon Race finishing in fourth and fifth place respectively.
We had 98 different prize winners across 36 categories. Prizes have been awarded for male and female team prizes and age categories from U19 up to V70, alongside the Open Race and Top Local Lads/Lasses. These prize winners have shared a prize pot with a value of just over £10k. Well done to all participants, it’s been a pleasure to put on a fantastic evening of racing!
