North East Cross Country Championships 2019

Twenty four Blaydon athletes braved the gale force, biting cold wind at Alnwick yesterday, to compete in the 2019 North East Cross Country Championships.

Jamie Lonnergan, Logan Knox and Isla Murray ran in the U/11s. Robert Atkinson, Max Murray and Tom Wallace finished 8th team in the U/13 boys. Ellie Fellows and Hazel Richardson were our U/13 girs, Ellie finishing an excellent 7th place.

Will Collinson led the U/15 boys home in 4th place, backed up by Joseph Lonnergan, Ben Thorpe and Alex Wallace. The boys narrowly missed out on a bronze medal by two points. Callum Trainer represented Blaydon in the U/17 category and Daniel Buffham ran in the U/20 men's race.

James Dias and Phil Jobson ran for the Senior Men. The Senior Women were led home by Eleanor Bradbury, followed by Claire Collinson, Claire McConnell, Jacqueline Elliott and Nicola Perry. The ladies finished 13th team.

The star performance of the day went to the U/17 ladies team, who won team bronze medals in their race. Blaydon's Junior Athlete of the Year, Cecilia Reid, led the team home, taking 7th place, followed by Abbie Lewis and Jessica Levy. This is a very young team in the U/17 category and there's a strong possibility of more medals in future years.
