2023 saw a brilliant turn out of Blaydon athletes over the Great North Run weekend, with athletes competing in the Great Run 5k on Friday, the Junior and Mini GNR on Saturday and the main event on 10 September 2023.
The hottest Great North Run on record, we experienced 30-50 mm of rain in the space of an hour, which is on par with the average monthly rainfall for the area. This weather phenomenon, which the Met Office has categorised as a mesoscale storm, resulted in flash flooding across the borough.
But the weather and the tough conditions didn't dampen the smiles of our athletes. A massive well done to all our Junior and Senior club runners who took part in this year's iconic Great North Run weekend.
