On Saturday 18 March 2023, we had seven junior athletes representing the Club at The ESAA National Cross-Country Championship. ‘English Schools’ as it is known, is the most eagerly anticipated event of the winter for young athletes.
The event brings together the best athletes in each of the 46 Counties in England to compete for the honour of being the best in the Country. To qualify is an incredible achievement! So to have seven athletes representing Blaydon Harriers and Durham County is something all should be very proud of.
In the Intermediate Boys race Max Murray, James Gray and Robert Atkinson all ran well as counters for the Durham team. Max Murray was best placed in 63rd, with a time of 18:10 over the 5.7k course. Even clocking an ‘unofficial’ 5k PB on the mud which bodes well ahead of the summer track season. That was followed by a team sprint finish with only one second separating James Gray and Robert Atkinson.
Ellie Fellows, representing the girls of BHAC, performed well. Finishing as 4th Counter for Durham and placing 148th in the Intermediate Girls race.
In the Junior Boys race we had another strong showing from the Blaydon lads with Jamie Lonergan, Joseph Ramshaw and Finn Graham all running well. Highlight of the day was Jamie finishing in 28th place, with a time of 15:03 over the 4.2k course.
All are an inspiration to our young athletes. Very well done from all at the Club.
