Club 5k Handicap, 28 September 2023

Blaydon Harriers organises regular 5k handicaps for both Junior and Senior members of the Club. Our latest run took place on 28 September 2023 on a route around Newburn Riverside.

A 5k handicap is designed to level the playing field for runners of all abilities, runners are given a head start or a time advantage based on their previous performance. Participants start the 5k at different times based on their handicaps. Slower runners start first, and faster runners start later, with the goal of having all participants theoretically finish at the same time if they run at their predicted pace. The 5k handicap is a great opportunity to bring everyone together, it's about camaraderie and enjoying the sport together, and to encourage runners to improve their performance.

It was a great night of running, with lots of personal bests, and it's great to see good progress on times since we organised the first 5k. Well done everyone! Keep up the hard work!

A big thanks to Robb Young for organising the event and to Chris Hargreaves and Emma Lane for marshalling.
