Despite the cold, foggy morning and more than a few soggy shoes, our amazing Blaydon Harriers juniors turned out in force for the Birtley Junior XC Relays on Sunday 9 March 2025.
Racing under UKA rules, the event saw teams of three compete across age-group distances ranging from 1.25k for our youngest runners, to 2.5k for the older juniors. It was a fantastic opportunity for athletes from across the region to come together and test themselves on a challenging but rewarding course.
From the first race to the last, every single one of our juniors gave it their all. The determination shown — powering up the tough hills and finishing the final 200 metres with grit and style — was truly inspiring. Their commitment and enthusiasm did not go unnoticed, with several coaches and parents from other clubs commenting on how brilliant it was to see so many younger runners taking part.
Teamwork and encouragement were the themes of the day. Whether racing, cheering, or waiting to tag their next runner, the support our juniors gave each other was heart-warming to see. It’s this kind of team spirit that makes our club so special.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and represented Blaydon with pride, and to all the parents for your fantastic support (and photography!). Events like this wouldn’t be possible without you.
If there’s one thing we’ll all take away from today, it’s the incredible team effort and positivity from our young athletes. Well done everyone — we’re so proud of you!
